Attach a TRMNL e-ink screen

Install the Lobby plugin on your TRMNL device and attach it to a room.

Before you start

  • A TRMNL device that's set up and online in the TRMNL app.
  • At least one room in Lobby, or you can create one while attaching.

    Start from the room

    Open Rooms, click the room, open the Screens tab and click Add a screen. Choose TRMNL display. You can also start from Screens, Add a screen, TRMNL e-ink display.

    Install the Lobby plugin in TRMNL

    Click Open TRMNL marketplace, or open the TRMNL app and go to Plugins, then Lobby. Click Install and follow the on-screen steps.

    Click Configure in TRMNL

    Once the plugin is installed, click Configure on it. This opens Lobby. If you're not signed in, sign in with the same Google or Microsoft work account you use for Lobby.

    Attach it to the room

    Back in the dashboard, Lobby shows that your TRMNL display is connected. Choose Pick existing room and select the room, then click Attach to room. Or choose Create a new room and click Create room & attach.

    Check the screen

    The screen is activated straight away if your plan has a free slot. It shows the room after its next refresh.

What happens next

The screen now appears on the Screens page and on the room's Screens tab. A screen on TRMNL's own service fetches a new picture every 15 minutes, so allow up to 15 minutes for changes to show.

Tips

  • On the screen's page, choose a Color mode that matches your panel: B&W, Gray 4, Gray 16 or Color. Click Which one should I pick? if you're unsure.
  • If your organisation has no timezone yet, Lobby takes it from the TRMNL device.
  • Clicked Skip for now? The screen waits on the Screens page until you attach it to a room.

If something goes wrong

Lobby says 'Screen attached, but not activated'.

You're already using all 3 active screens on the Free plan. Deactivate another screen or upgrade, then click Activate on this screen.

The screen says 'This screen isn't added to a room yet'.

Open the screen on the Screens page and attach it to a room.
